President’s Year-End Message 2005

The holiday season is a time synonymous with celebrating and appreciating those closest to you.  Yet, for those suffering from cancer, celebration is not due to the season, but by every day they can continue to win small battles against their disease.  The sharp understanding that life is a precious gift, and time is invaluable, causes one to fight to continue to live on, and love on, through the hope and support of their inner-strength and others.

Frequently, people devastated by Granulosa Cell Tumor (GCT) of the Ovary ovarian cancer, contact our foundation requesting information about GCT.  Hearing the desperation in their voices about the lack of information and viable treatment options, consistently hits home with me.  One conversation in particular, really stood out: A mother whose 16 year-old daughter was fighting GCT and was having surgeries every three months.  Fighting cancer is an arduous journey racing against the clock to find a treatment that works, and the courage to hope.

GCTF is in the business of creating hope.  We sent $22,000.00 to Prince Henry’s Institute of Medical Research (PHIMR) to continue the study of the molecular pathology of GCT.  Additionally, GCTF has broken into new media avenues and communities to raise funds and awareness about GCT ovarian cancer.  To date, we have sent $50,000 to PHIMR for the study of this disease. PHIMR is making progress, and remains committed to studying this disease with our support.

There is still much to accomplish in the fight against GCT and we need your help. Call today to join us in the charge for federal funding.  Be a part of changing the future for GCT ovarian cancer survivors.

On behalf of all GCT survivors and the GCTF Board of Directors and volunteers, thank you for a hope filled year.
